Enriching Opportunities at Theodore Roosevelt School
The educational instructors at the Theodore Roosevelt School Weehawken are committed to providing children with a well-rounded curriculum that includes Spanish language, instrumental music, performing arts, health, gym, art, and library coursework. The school’s Spanish teacher utilizes the online Middlebury Interactive Program to offer personalized and differentiated resources for students. Instrumental music classes allow students to experiment with instruments at a much younger age than many other schools to provide them with a lifelong love of music and perhaps the opportunity to later join our award-winning Weehawken High School marching band.
Meanwhile, the Theodore Roosevelt School offers interdisciplinary performing arts classes to expose young students to theater, public speaking, singing, and music appreciation. Health and physical educations address more current and relevant topics for third through sixth graders than ever before, while art classes engage students in exciting projects that highlight each student’s unique individuality. To promote literacy and a love for reading, the school’s library program revolves around a modern media center.
Technology at Theodore Roosevelt School
Technology is at the heart of the comprehensive education provided at the Theodore Roosevelt School Weehawken, which is why each student here has his or her own Chromebook. This is a 1:1 school where students lean about digital citizenship and the apps, tools, and keyboard skills they need to research and learn. In fact, many staff members here are Google Apps for Education Level I and II certified educators.
Additionally, the school utilizes the Achieve3000® App, which “provides the only patented, cloud-based solutions that deliver daily differentiated instruction for nonfiction reading and writing that are precisely tailored to each student’s Lexile® reading level.”
The Theodore Roosevelt School Peer Leadership Program
To help students develop leadership skills and get the help they need, the Theodore Roosevelt School has a peer leadership program that allows students to meet with peers to address concerns in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Beginning in fifth grade, this program has proven very effective for helping youth through issues with academics, personal relationships, and anything else that stands in the way of student safety and happiness.
D.A.R.E. Curriculum at Theodore Roosevelt School
The Theodore Roosevelt School Weehawken also has a well-established D.A.R.E. program to teach sixth graders how to avoid drugs, crime, gangs, and violence. The program is run by a Weehawken Police Officer and offers valuable lifelong lessons that all students benefit from.
Out-of-School Trips and Activities
Beyond the walls of the classroom, Theodore Roosevelt School students have numerous opportunities throughout the year for field trips, assembly programs, and seasonal events that complement their over curriculum. The school has a dedicated PTO to help out with these activities and celebrate educational events, such as the Book Fair, 100th Day of School, and Read Across America.
