American Dream Guide: What to Know Before Visiting the Amazing New Mega-Mall
Feb 17, 2020
It’s taken about 15 years and seen some challenges, but we couldn’t be more excited for the new American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey! The new local mega-mall has finally opened its doors to the public and has 18 acres of exciting entertainment that’s open year-around.
American Dream is a wonderful addition to our region and yet another great reason to call Port Imperial your new home. Here are some details about American Dream so that you know what to expect on your first experience here.
Overview of American Dream
American Dream is the second-largest mall in the United States and is home to about three million square feet of space. Much more than just a place to shop, the mall’s plans also include an indoor amusement park, hockey rink, water park, ski slope, aviary, mini-golf course, aquarium, movie theater, concert venues, and helipads. Other onsite perks will include a doggy daycare, luxury area to treat yourself to the finer things in life while your designer goods are packaged up, and two hotels with approximately 3,500 rooms.
American Dream is a refreshing alternative to our online shopping society because it is a gathering place, entertainment hub, and cultural destination. The new mall aims to attract 40 million visitors in its first year.
Shopping at American Dream
Of course, one of the primary reasons why you’d want to visit American Dream is for the expansive shopping opportunities. Although American Dream is still rolling out all its features in phases, it is expected to have about 450 stores opened by around March. Among the stores we expect to see here are Tiffany & Co., Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Zara, Uniqlo, and Åland.
Eating at American Dream
American Dream is also set to become a foodie’s paradise with approximately 100 dining destinations popping up in the months ahead. We expect to see a little bit of everything here, from diverse global cuisine to fast-casual bites, full-service restaurants, and a Kosher food hall.
Playing at American Dream
Kids and adults of all ages will love spending time together at American Dream because of how many exciting attractions will all be under one roof. Where else can you visit that offers ice skating, dozens of water slides, and indoor snowboarding and skiing?
But the non-stop family entertainment doesn’t stop there because American Dream will also feature 18-hole mini-golf courses, a luxury movie theater, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, aquarium, and observation wheel offering spectacular views of Manhattan.
Experiences at American Dream
In addition to all the ways to play at American Dream, this mega-mall also plans to offer fashion shows, concerts, and other live events for us to enjoy. This will also be a place where the public can experience inspiring artistic creations and learn about works from local artists and from all around the world.
Soft Opening and Future Openings
American Dream hosted a soft opening in late-October, but there is a lot more to look forward to on this side of the Hudson River. Right now, you can visit the Nickelodeon Universe theme park and the ice rink – just in time to kick off the winter season. But coming soon is the DreamWorks waterpark, the Big Snow ski slope, and then of course, hundreds of stores for your browsing and buying pleasure.
Location and Transportation to American Dream
American Dream is less than 20 minutes by car from our Port Imperial properties, making this an easy weekend destination for groups of friends or the whole family. Non-valet parking is free if it’s not an NFL game day, and there are 11,000 parking spaces at American Dream. Valet parking is $10.
Thanks to a partnership with the NY Waterway, shuttle bus service is also offered to pick people up from the West 39th Street Midtown Ferry Terminal. The ferry drops off at none other than our very own Port Imperial in Weehawken, where shuttle buses take passengers to American Dream. This means that our waterfront properties are a prime place to be if you want to check out American Dream but either don’t have a car or don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving. Meanwhile, Lyft is the official rideshare partner of American Dream, and NJ Transit bus service will also get you here to join the fun.
Current hours for Nickelodeon Universe and The Rink are Mondays through Thursdays from 11am to 9pm, Fridays from 11am to 10pm, Saturdays from 10am to 10pm, and Sundays from 10am to 9pm. Check the venue’s hours and directions page for updates as new features are added to American Dream. Once you arrive, you can rent strollers for $11, wheelchairs for $10, and electric conveyance vehicles for $35 for your accessibility needs.
We’re so happy to welcome American Dream to our New Jersey community and look forward to everything it has to offer our tenants in the months and years ahead!
