Port Imperial residents love the fact that they don’t need a car to get around to access all of the exciting things to do on this side of the Hudson River. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail services our community and makes it easy to commute by train to Jersey City, Hoboken, and beyond. This quick and convenient access makes Port Imperial a hot destination and ideal place to live outside the city!

Our Light Rail Station Location

The Port Imperial light rail station is located just 0.3 miles away, a six-minute walk, from our RiverHouse11 at Port Imperial. Just head northeast on the Avenue at Port Imperial/Ferry Boulevard toward East Cooper Place, take a slight right onto Port Imperial Boulevard, and then a sharp left onto Port Imperial Station and you’ll see the rail line on your right. This is a clean station with frequent service that’s just across from the dock and perfect for commuting.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Schedule

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail services the following communities: Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Union City, and North Bergen. It has intermediate points, rail connections available at Hoboken Terminal, and local bus connections, PATH, and ferry service to New York as well.

Northbound light rail trains begin departing from the Port Imperial station as early as 5:21am on weekdays, and trips continue every 10-20 minutes on each service route depending upon the time of day. Meanwhile, southbound light rail trains begin picking passengers up at 5:03am at the Port Imperial station with similar frequency. Trains continue running as late as 1:49am northbound and 1:44am southbound for your late weekday nights. Then on weekends, Port Imperial trains begin running northbound at 6:24am and southbound at 5:40am. The last weekend train departs Port Imperial at 1:25am going north to Hoboken/Tonnelle and at 1:35am going south to West Side/8th Street.

You can select your origin and destination to plan your route and see upcoming travel times on the NJ TRANSIT Light Rail Schedules website.

Light Rail Tickets and Fare Information

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail uses a “proof of payment” system, so you must be able to show your ticket upon request. Resident commuters commonly buy a monthly rail pass or a monthly or weekly NJ TRANSIT rail pass to simplify their rides. But if you’re not using a pass, you’ll need to purchase a ticket before boarding one of the light rail cars. Head to the ticket vending machines located near a station entrance, on a rail platform, or at a Park & Ride lot to buy your ticket and make sure to time-stamp it at one of the validators near TVMs just before boarding. Fare enforcement officers make their way through the train cars to make random inspections, so keep your ticket handy during your ride.

An adult one-way ticket for this train is $2.25, and the reduced fare is $1.10 for those who qualify. A one-zone bus transfer will cost you $0.75, adult 10-trip tickets are $22.50, and a monthly pass for the light rail is $70. Discounts are available for families on weekends and holidays, students who reside in New Jersey, and for military personnel and their dependents. If you have a NJ Transit monthly rail pass, it is also crossed honored for NJ Transit Light Rail.

Connections to and from the Station

Living so close to the Port Imperial station is also convenient because of the easy connections to get you here. Both NJ TRANSIT and private bus carriers offer service from locations near light rail stations, and there are many bus routes serviced from here. Rail connections are available at Hoboken Terminal to Morris & Essex, Main/Bergen County, Montclair/Boonton, and the Pascack Valley bus lines. Meanwhile, PATH has rail service between Newark and Penn Station, as well as the World Trade Center Station, 33rd Street in New York, Journal Square, and Hoboken and 33rd Street in New York. Better yet, the NY Waterway provides ferry service from Port Imperial and other locations too.
